The WATERMELLON Project is pleased to announce its upcoming international event, “Innovating Mediterranean Agriculture”—a key gathering designed to connect partners, stakeholders, and experts working toward more sustainable and resilient agricultural systems in the Mediterranean region.
Co-organized by the full project consortium—led by CRES—and with the special collaboration of the Spanish partners Iniciativas Innovadoras and Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España with Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de Andalucía, this hybrid event will take place in Seville on June 16, 2026. It marks an important milestone in the project’s journey, offering a space to exchange knowledge, showcase progress, and explore innovative solutions to shared challenges.
The program is structured in two main parts. The first will open with a welcome “Get Together” session, followed by a series of presentations from leading organizations and project partners. Speakers include representatives from the EU CAP Network (Xurxo Loureiro), CAAND (Santiago García Montagut), CRES (Dr. Efthymia Alexopoulou) and Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias (Juan Sagarna), AUA (Dr. Eleni G. Papazoglou and Dr. Emmanouil Psomiadis), and UNIBO (Andrea Monti). Together, they will present key developments, insights, and experiences shaping the future of Mediterranean agriculture.
The second part will broaden the perspective by featuring contributions from related European initiatives, including VENUS (Vassilis Aschonitis), NUSTALGIC (Marta Vasconcelos, UCP), PHYBI (IDENER), IASIS (Dr. Efthymia Alexopoulou, CRES), and RUNFASTER4EU (Prof. Andrea Monti, UNIBO). These presentations will highlight synergies across projects and reinforce collaboration at the European level.
The event will conclude with a panel discussion titled “Farming with Less Water: Real Solutions for the Mediterranean.” This session will bring together distinguished experts such as Dr. Ana Marjanovic Jeromela (IFVC, Serbia), Dr. Juliana Navarro Rocha (CITA Aragón, Spain), Juan Sagarna (Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias), Ignacio Solís (Agrovegetal), and other WATERMELLON partners. The discussion will focus on practical strategies and innovations to address water scarcity, one of the most pressing challenges facing Mediterranean agriculture today.
