University of Thessaly Demonstrates Drone Technology for Sustainable Quinoa Cultivation

The Laboratory of Farm Mechanization at the University of Thessaly has successfully completed the first field operation of its newly acquired agricultural spraying drone at the University’s experimental farm in Velestino, Greece.

The drone was used to apply herbicide to the quinoa crop cultivated within the PRIMA WaterMellon Project, marking another step forward in the integration of precision agriculture technologies into sustainable farming practices.

By incorporating advanced drone technology into field experiments, the project aims to improve resource efficiency, optimise crop management and support the development of climate-resilient farming systems across the Mediterranean region.
