We are gladly to share that WATERMELLON has been invited for a networking event alongside with Carina to the event on June 3rd. The event “Jornada de cultivos alternativos en el Bajo Guadalquivir” is organize by Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias of Andalusian. This represents an opportunity to share knowledge between European projects, farmers, cooperatives and industry professionals new cropping options tailored to local conditions.
The event will take place at the headquarters of the Comunidad de Regantes del Bajo Guadalquiv and will feature the CARINA project. Throughout the morning, attendees will have the opportunity to gain a practical understanding of various agricultural alternatives designed to address current challenges such as water scarcity, climate change and the need to diversify production.
The day will begin with a presentation of the WATERMELLON project, which works to promote more sustainable and efficient agriculture, particularly in terms of water use, led by Juan Sagarna, Director of Sustainability and Innovation Projects at Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España. This will be followed by sessions explaining, in a simple and practical way, the opportunities offered by various emerging crops: quinoa, one of the key areas of experimentation in the WATERMELLON project.
Finally, the participants will visit the test plot of quinoa, guided by the cooperative La Campiña de Lebrija partner of WaterMellon in the field to see how this crop is developing in the field and what results it is yielding under real conditions.
Through initiatives such as this, WATERMELLON aims to bring innovation to the farming sector in a practical way, helping farmers to explore new opportunities that are sustainable, profitable and tailored to the challenges of today and tomorrow.
