On August 24, 2025, the WaterMellon Project under the PRIMA Program organized its second stakeholders’ workshop in Yohmor (Nabatiyeh Governorate, Lebanon). The event was hosted by ICU – Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria, in collaboration with local cooperatives, and brought together around 40 participants, including farmers, agricultural engineers, cooperative members, and local authorities.
The workshop introduced participants to the vision, objectives, and structure of the WaterMellon Project, while also providing insights into the PRIMA funding program and the project consortium. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of Lebanese pilot sites in testing innovative agricultural practices to address pressing challenges.
Discussions highlighted the project’s strategies to tackle water scarcity and climate change impacts, with a focus on exploring the potential of drought-resilient crops such as quinoa and teff. These crops are being considered as promising alternatives to help farmers adapt to increasingly unpredictable weather conditions.

Participants engaged in dynamic exchanges through presentations and open discussions, sharing their experiences and perspectives on the agricultural challenges in the region, especially those exacerbated by climate stress.
The workshop concluded on a positive note, with many participants expressing strong interest in joining the second Regional Farmers Group (RFG) in Lebanon. This group will play a key role in supporting the implementation and long-term sustainability of the project’s interventions in Yohmor and its surrounding areas.
